Degree Programme
Trinity School of Theology partners with York St John University who awards all of the academic qualifications undertaken at Trinity. Full-time study at degree level will result in the following qualifications, awarded by York St John University:
After 1 year: Certificate of Higher Education in Theology and Ministry
After 2 years: Foundation Degree in Theology and Ministry
After 3 years: BA (Honours) in Theology and Ministry
The Foundation Degree is a nationally recognised award, which combines theological study and practical ministry. It is used by churches of various backgrounds and denominations as part of their initial and continuing vocational training.
The BA provides opportunities for trainee ministers to update or upgrade a previous award as well as providing the opportunity to gain a degree for those interested, for the first time, in both practical ministry and sound theological training.
The following Theology & Ministry modules are covered in each of the three years:
First Year:
Second Year:
Third Year:
An in depth look at the curriculum
The teaching sessions in Theology & Ministry are mainly delivered on Mondays and Tuesdays. There are also assemblies or small group meetings each morning before the teaching sessions begin. Two, very practically focused modules, Vocation, Ministry and Discipleship and Creative and Social Development, are taught on Thursdays. Vocation, Ministry and Discipleship is taught as a second year module on the degree course, but also to both first and second years as a non-assessed, additional part of the core curriculum. Creative and Social Development is not part of the assessed teaching programme but is an important part of the curriculum. Subjects covered by Creative and Social Development include Music and Worship, Apologetics, Christianity and the Arts, and the Media.
Pastoral Development
Given the way that the timetable is structured, it is possible to enrol on the full-time degree pathway and still work a part-time job, provided you are able to allocate 30 hours for personal study in addition to attending the crucial lectures on Monday and Tuesday. This option is only open to UK and EU passport holders.
Trinity School of Theology Certificate and Diploma
For UK and EU students, it is possible to study at Trinity School of Theology, attending all the same lectures as the degree students, but not having to undertake the degree assignments. Instead, less academically rigorous assignments will be set, the successful completion of which will result in the student obtaining either a one-year Certificate or a two-year Diploma in Theology from TST.
