Full-time Curriculum

The teaching sessions in Theology & Ministry are mainly delivered on Mondays and Tuesdays. A very practically focused module, Vocation, Ministry and Discipleship is taught on Thursdays. Every morning morning the staff and students meet for assembly.

The following Theology & Ministry modules are covered in each of the three years:
First Year:

  • Spirit and Church in a Mission Context
  • Evangelism into the Future;
  • Introduction to Religious Diversity
  • Studying the New Testament
  • Studying the Old Testament
  • The Development of Christian Faith in History

Second Year:

  • Communicating the Christian Story (Homiletics)
  • Studying the Bible (Hermeneutics)
  • Pastoral Ministry in Context
  • Vocation, Ministry and Discipleship
  • Mission in Context
  • Independent Learning Unit (Independent research).

Third Year:

  • Biblical Studies
  • Ethics
  • Pastoral Care
  • Leadership and Management
  • Special Study (placement based project) or Special study (research dissertation), or both a placement project and shorter piece of independent research.

Given the way that the timetable is structured, it is possible to enrol on the full-time degree pathway and still work a part-time job, provided you are able to allocate 30 hours for personal study in addition to attending the crucial lectures on Monday and Tuesday. This option is only open to UK and EU passport holders. International students are required to take part in the full programme.

Full-time study at degree level will result in the following qualifications, awarded by York St John University:

After 1 year:      Certificate of Higher Education in Theology and Ministry
After 2 years:      Foundation Degree in Theology and Ministry
After 3 years:      BA (Honours) in Theology and Ministry

Trinity School of Theology Certificate and Diploma

For UK and EU students, it is possible to study at Trinity School of Theology, attending all the same lectures as the degree students, but not having to undertake the degree assignments.  Instead, less academically rigorous assignments will be set, the successful completion of which will result in the student obtaining either a one-year Certificate or a two-year Diploma in Theology from TST.
