Rugby is known all over the world as the birthplace of Rugby Football. The game began on the Close at Rugby School in 1823 when William Webb Ellis first took the ball in his arms and ran with it. However, there is more to Rugby than rugby, as great literary figures such as Rupert Brooke, Matthew Arnold, and Lewis Carroll also attended Rugby School.
Rugby Open Market provides shoppers with 34 stalls of fresh produce including meat, fish and fruit and vegetables, as well as clothing and cosmetics three days a week. There is also a Farmers market held on the last Thursday of the month from 9am until 2pm.
Entertainment in Rugby can be found at the Theatre based in the town centre. A cinema and bowling facilities can be found on the Leicester Road, only ten minutes away as well as a number of cafes, restaurants and bars in the centre.
